The Project

This is a family recipe platform: a social app for keeping and sharing recipes. The first version was built in 2023. It was rebuilt in 2025.

What We Built

People can add, edit, delete, like, comment on, and share recipes. The app has email sign-in plus OAuth, favorites, browsing by category, and Algolia search and filtering.

Older recipes were pulled from PDF and DOC exports, parsed with regular expressions, and loaded into Firestore.

Stack and Timeline

The first version used Create React App, React 18, Firebase and Firestore, firebase-admin, Algolia with react-instantsearch, react-router 6, framer-motion, and react-toastify. The initial build took about one to two weeks. That version ran from January 2023 through February 2024.

The 2025 rebuild uses Next.js 16, React 19, TypeScript, Tailwind 4, Firebase 12, and Algolia v5. That work ran from April 2025 through December 2025.
