The Project

The project is a website for Quillstone Tax & Accounting, a bookkeeping and tax firm in Minneapolis's North Loop that works with small businesses and their owners. Accounting firms win most of their work on trust. A referral mentions the name, and the prospect looks the firm up before calling. If what they find is a dated site with a stock photo of a calculator, that referral can cool off fast.

This design is built to pass that look-up test. It's calm, credible and specific about who the firm helps and how to get started. And because tax season sets a hard deadline, it's built in a week.

The Goals

  1. Look established and trustworthy at first glance. A strict grid, one red accent, and no decoration.
  2. Say who the firm serves. Separate paths for small businesses and individuals.
  3. Make the next step obvious. "Book a Consultation" in the nav and hero, with a phone number right beside it.
  4. Launch before the busy season. A one-week build, so the site is live while prospects are actively looking.
  5. Handle sensitive information safely. The contact form asks only for contact details. Tax documents never go through the website form.

Package Fit

Package: Website in a Week, $2,200.

A professional-services firm with a clear set of services and a deadline is a natural fit for our Website in a Week package. We build a customized site from your samples, direction and brand guidelines in 1 week. It includes a 1-hour brainstorm, a layout template, standard SEO optimizations, mobile responsiveness, social media integration, a contact form, photo sourcing, 2 rounds of revisions, Google Analytics and Google Business Profile setup. Extra pages are $500 each.

Design Approach

Colors: Paper (#F7F7F5) and ink (#111111), with a hairline (#D9D9D4) and signal red (#D0121A). Red is used only on the consult button and one small square.

Type: IBM Plex Sans for the whole page. Headlines are large and tightly tracked. Body copy, labels, and buttons are 16px or larger, with body copy at 18px.

Layout: The header is one line: a boxed QS mark, text links, and a sharp red "Book a consult" button. The hero is a poster, not a split card. "Clear books." sits on the left with the North Loop line and the phone number. An outlined "01" and a red square occupy the right. Services are full-width ruled rows. "Who it's for" is two columns divided by a vertical rule. The consult form uses that same grid, and it says not to send a Social Security number or tax documents.

  • Contact and Book a Consultation

What We Built

  1. Mobile responsive layout: The headline, the red consult button, and the service rows stack on a phone, with "Book a consult" kept above the fold.
  2. Consultation request form: Name, email, phone, business or individual, and a short "how can we help?" field. The form notes that it shouldn't be used to send Social Security numbers or tax documents.
  3. Clear service pages: Each one explains who it's for, what's included and how to start, with a Q&A block of common questions.
  4. Standard SEO: Unique titles, meta descriptions and headings written around how people search, like "small business accountant North Loop."
  5. AccountingService schema: Structured data using the schema.org AccountingService type, the specific LocalBusiness subtype for accounting firms (Google Search Central).
  6. Google Business Profile setup: Categories, services, hours and a consultation link that match the website.
  7. Google Analytics: Tracking for consultation requests and phone clicks.

Process Timeline

Website in a Week means a launch-ready site in 7 days. The prep happens first, so the week itself is a focused build:

  1. Before the week: consult, brainstorm and content. A free 30-minute consultation, a quote within 24 hours, then the 1-hour brainstorm and collecting your content, sample sites and brand guidelines.
  2. Day 1: kickoff and layout. We confirm the page list and the main call to action, then apply the layout template, colors and type.
  3. Day 2: homepage. We design the homepage: the poster headline, the service index, and the consult button.
  4. Day 3: inner pages. We build the Services, Small Business, Individuals, Resources and Contact pages.
  5. Day 4: forms, SEO and schema. The consultation form, social links, titles, meta descriptions, headings and AccountingService schema.
  6. Day 5: revision round 1. You review a staging link on your phone and computer and send feedback. We make the first round of changes.
  7. Day 6: revision round 2 and setup. Final changes, testing across browsers and devices, then Google Analytics and Google Business Profile setup.
  8. Day 7: launch. The site goes live, the sitemap is submitted to Google Search Console, and we hand off with a short walkthrough.

What It's Designed to Drive

  • Referrals that turn into calls. A credible, specific site is designed to back up a referral rather than undercut it.
  • More consultation requests. One clear call to action on every page.
  • Better-fit inquiries. Separate small-business and individual paths are designed to help people self-select.
  • A head start on the busy season. A one-week build is designed to get the site live while people are searching.
